The '.2' refers to two overhead speakers. A 5.1.2 system adds object-based 3D audio above you, which 5.1 cannot reproduce.
Only if your current AVR doesn't support Dolby Atmos. Most receivers from 2016 onwards do — we'll check before recommending upgrades.
In-ceiling speakers give the truest Atmos effect. Up-firing modules are excellent when ceiling installation isn't possible — they bounce sound off the ceiling for a similar experience.
