LED vs LCD Display — What's the Real Difference?

We install both LED and LCD systems every week across Hyderabad and Vijayawada. This is the honest, side-by-side comparison we give corporate AV managers and reception designers in our showroom — no brand loyalty, just what actually holds up in year 3.

    Where LED wins

Direct-view LED (DVLED) is seamless — no bezel — and scales to any shape and size. Brightness is far higher (800+ nits typical, 5000+ nits outdoor), viewing angle is essentially 180°, and it doesn't image-retain the way LCD can with static logos.

    Where LCD wins

LCD (including LED-backlit LCD) is much cheaper per square metre up to about 100" and has better close-viewing pixel density. For anything a viewer might stand within 1m of, LCD still looks sharper than a comparable-priced LED wall.

    Total cost of ownership

LCD video walls have visible bezel seams (typically 0.88–3.5mm) between panels. DVLED is a single seamless image. For premium corporate lobbies and broadcast this seamlessness is the entire reason DVLED costs more.

    Our recommendation

If seamless image, wide viewing angle and long-life brightness matter more than per-inch cost, pick direct-view LED. If you need lots of screen area on a budget and can live with bezels, LCD video wall is still valid.

    • Choose LCD video walls for information display, control rooms and workstation clusters where cost-per-inch matters most; choose DVLED for reception, boardrooms, retail and any image the CEO will see.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What pixel pitch should I pick for LED?+

Match minimum viewing distance in metres to pixel pitch in mm — a viewer 2.5m away needs at least P2.5 to see a sharp image.

Can DVLED show a normal Windows desktop?+

Yes — with a video processor that scales the desktop to the wall's native resolution. For heavy text workloads, LCD is still more readable at close range.

    How long does each last?+

DVLED: rated 100,000 hours. LCD video wall: rated 60,000–80,000 hours but backlight uniformity degrades earlier.
